The 24 Hours of Le Mans Karting has begunwith Piccini
28/08/2014
The 2014 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Karting started today, with free practice from 15:00 to 15:30 and then also at night from 21:00 to 22:30. Acclimatization tests, studies, tests of the latest adjustments, of the optimization of the details for what is a must of the Endurance, or the appointment of the year in the world of karting racing.
The 35 crews present are mainly divided into two groups (GP1, reserved for KF2 engines and GP2, for Rotax engines). They are all rigorously shod with LeCont tyres, which for four years (and up to and including 2016) has been the sole supplier of the French classic.
Among the 140 registered drivers, some prestigious names stand out. The local stars are the masters, first of all the recent winner of the Las Vegas GP, Anthony Abbasse, his fast teammate Charles Fiault, the now formula driver Anthoine Hubert and the multiple winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Karting, Wilfrid Lecarpentier.
On Saturday at 15:00, at the time of the start of this 29th edition of the 24 Hours Karting of Le Mans Karting, many applause from the public, however, will be addressed to an Italian driver whose presence certainly gives further prestige to the French race.
Among the members of the #100 crew, with a Tony Kart-Vortex with a blue and yellow livery (the colors of the transalpine specialized magazine, Kartmag), the name of a fifty-year-old "young man" whose roll of honor catches the eye it can make almost anyone pale: Alessandro Piccini, da Vinci. Four times World Champion, three times European Champion, twelve times Italian Individual Champion (plus a team title) and even two times French Champion!
Years go by for him but his passion for racing and speed never drops by an ounce, as does the courage to face a race that is one of the toughest on a physical and psychological level. Chapeau as they say around here!
