Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2014: pole in sector 1 for Dumas, Norma, Honda and LeCont

25/06/2014

After free practice, Romain Dumas continues to dominate the 92nd Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2014. With the Norma M20 RD - Honda fitted with LeCont, today he set the best time in the qualifying session of the first sector of the famous American climb. The alarm went off very early for all the insiders. At 3 in the morning the activity was already fervent in the area of the assistance park located a stone's throw from the start of the first qualification test of the sector, in the Pikes Peak forest, at almost 3000 meters above sea level. At dawn, the first cars set off for the first of their (at most) three climbs. Romain Dumas immediately made the most of his LeCont tyres and gave a clear signal to all rivals by hoisting his Norma M20 RD - Honda - LeCont category "Unlimited" in first position, with a time of 3'40"108, 23" faster than the second (the Italian Piero Nappi). A performance of absolute importance, which the Frenchman however managed to improve in the third climb, in which he completed the 8 km of the first sector in 3'37"525, despite a drop in engine power. Tomorrow (Thursday) tests for Dumas will continue in the second sector.
