LeCont more present than ever at major events

11/04/2021

In 2021, the partnership between WSK Promotion and the Italian manufacturer LeCont will run for the entire season for the supply of tyres for the OK category. After the Champions Cup and the Super Master Series, it was the turn of the prestigious Euro Series to start at the South Garda Karting of Lonato. The 43 drivers entered in the OK class had to deal with mixed conditions: dry weather in Timed Practice and in the Qualifying Heats, before the arrival of rain for the Final phase. In both cases, LeCont tyres contributed to the show and the intensity of the races.

Since the start of the new season, drivers and professionals have been able to keep racing and doing business thanks to the active work of WSK Promotion, as Paolo Bombara, Marketing Manager at LeCont, acknowledged. "At a time when we are unfortunately not finished with Covid-19 and races are still scarce in several European countries, the international karting community can only be grateful to Luca De Donno and his team who spare no effort in organising great events with their usual professionalism. There were still more than 250 drivers in total for the opening of the WSK Euro Series. For LeCont, it is a matter of pride to participate in these different series as a partner of the WSK. Six events remain on the programme in 2021 and we will be working hard to fulfil our mission perfectly with our high-tech products".

A rainy Sunday on Lake Garda

Raced exclusively on Italian tracks in 2021, the WSK Promotion series has chosen to rely on European manufacturers, in order to promote better logistics and limit the carbon footprint by favouring the reduction of transport between the production sites and the circuits. Concerned about ecology, LeCont is sensitive to the respect of environmental standards in the production of its slick and rain tyres. In Lonato, both types of rubber were used for the first time this season in WSK.

"The competitors had a tough time, as rain started on Sunday, even though the practice and Qualifying Heats were held in dry conditions. The drivers and teams only had a 12-minute warm-up at the beginning of the day to acclimatise to the new conditions. The ability to adapt and the choice of set-up played an important role. We saw that the drivers who were quick on slicks often confirmed their speed on the wet track, so the hierarchy from the beginning of the season was generally confirmed, which is a good indicator of the quality of the tyres".

Lindblad gets the ball rolling

The new LeCont SV1 "wet" tyres, homologated in 2020, proved to be very consistent, ensuring a perfect sporting balance between the competitors until the end of the Final. This does not prevent LeCont's research and development department from working to improve the performance level of these tyres for the next homologation. "Over the years, our slicks have become benchmarks in the major international championships and our objective is to achieve this very high level of competitiveness throughout our range", continued Paolo Bombara. "Our customers are demanding drivers and we have to meet their requirements".

The British driver Arvid Lindblad, who had already won in March, took the win after a perfectly controlled Final. Ugo Uguchukwu was 2nd, with Brando Badoer taking 3rd place after Luigi Coluccio was penalised for an incorrectly positioned front fairing.

The rest of the WSK Euro Series looks particularly attractive with the next races scheduled in Adria and Sarno, on circuits that will host stages of the FIA European Karting Championship in the future.
